Hewlett-Packard Development Co CEO Meg Whitman said in the Canalys Channels Forum in Bangkok that the company will enter the 3D printing market by 2014.

“We are excited about 3D printing and want to lead this businesses as 3D printing now is in its infancy” Whitman said. “It is a big opportunity and we are all over it and we will have something by the middle of next year.” she added.

Whitman made some remarks at the Canalys Channels Forum and did not say just what form HP’s 3D printing product will have. She also mentioned that it will be a “new technology”.

Whitman mentioned that she does not expect 3D printing will become a big business quickly.

“These businesses go along, get a little traction, go along, get a little more traction, then hit the knee of the curve.” Whitman said.

Jin Weidong, vice-president of HP’s printer business in China, said that HP’s long technical knowledge in the inkjet printing sector will help the company develop 3D printers.

Jin mentioned, “China’s 3D printing market is a huge business for every top printer manufacturer. Players with the strongest technical background and partner network will gain the most market share”.

While 3D Printing market is already being developed day by day, joining big companies to 3d printing market will not only make the market bigger and better, but it will also probably lead to develop high quality 3d printers with reasonable prices.
